Marek Jason Isleib *Berlin 1968
I’ve been a performing mime at a young age. After graduating from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague I started working as a professional classical (Komische Oper Berlin/Scapino Ballet Rotterdam), contemporary and improvising dancer/mover in Germany, The Netherlands, France and Italy for over 20 years, (also learning forms of movement like Yoga and Tai Chi as well as taking Feldenkrais lessons for many years).
-In 2000 i began to explore Butoh-
Through studying and performing with Hisako Horikawa and Katsura Kan, among others, I began to free myself from forms that had become attached to my body over decades. Today I practise and live ‘my’ Butoh. I live to communicate, inspire, share (perform) and accompany (I ‘teach’ Butoh). My daily practice is to perceive the ‘real’ world in and around me as new again and again. To live and to transform into movement that which is still unknown to me. To allow something to appear that neither I nor others have perceived before. I regularly give Butoh lessons and workshops in Milan where I live.
